The Windy Bride
Long ago a young bride entered a farming family. She was a hard worked and a good daughter in law.
However, within a week of entering the household, she has taken on a sickly palor. As the days passed she became worse and worse. The worried mother in law asked "Why has your face gone such a awful color? Is there something wrong inside of you?" To which the young bride replied honestly and with difficulty, "Since I was born, if I do not break wind my body becomes ill." The mother having heard those words said, "Well if that is the case, don't hold back. Let one go! Its OK. Please don't be shy."
The young bride replied happily, "Thank you very much. However one thing, I break wind with great force so please grab a hold of that post." With that she hitched up her skirts and let out a long needed fart. Having been holding it in for days it was not just big, it was REALLY BIG! The mother was blown away right up the chimney of the farmhouse. She shouted in fright, "Shut the wind off! Shut the wind off!" Then she decided "We cannot have this kind of daughter in law loving in the house. I'm going to get rid of her."
On the way back to the young bride's parents house, they cane across a farmer toilin under a heavy load of wood. "Let me help you with that," offered the young bride and let off another large fart. All the wood was blown away and landed neatly lined up at the farmers destination. The stunned farmer bowing repetitively exclaimed, "Wow! Thank you very much."
Walking a little further on they came across a woman trying to pull a daikon (Japanese white raddish) from a large field. They were well grown daikon however she was upset she couldn't get them out of the ground. The young bride quickly in a loud voice began to make a lot of noise. Many people from the neighbourhood began gathering together wondering amongst themselves, "What on earth is that?" When they gathered she broke wind with unbelievable force.
"Oh my god! We are all going to be blown away," the gathered locals shouted in the sudden gale and all grasped the leaves sprouting from the daikon. When the wind has died away they looked around the broad field to see that all the daikon had been pulled from the ground.
They walked on a little further and came across a resting lord. They could see a large persimmon tree beyond him where his followers were trying to pick the fruit. However they were concerned as the could not reach the fruit high out of their arms reach.
The young bride said, "I'll get them for you," and turned towards the tree, once again breaking prodigious wind. The tree swayed wildly in the wind and most of the fruit was shaken off it. The lord heaped praise upon the young bride and rewarded her well.
The mother was astonished. "I cannot send this woman away. She is remarkable," she said and took her back into their home.
The moral of this story is that everything and everyone has its or their uses.
