Ichiei Ichimura (市村 一衛 1924–1994)
Founder of the “Mimi No Kai” and leader of a young generation of farmers
Ichimura formed a group, the “Mimi No Kai”(Meetings of Ears), centered around a young generation of farmers. With the purpose of acquiring knowledge on a wide range as a simple human being, he set up free discussion groups around fireplaces where he would tackle issues such as agriculture or politics, economics and education… These learning assemblies were held in homes and literally constituted pick-up knowledge meetings, hence the name“meetings of ears.”
