A leader in the research on art history and Ukiyoe, and a great contributor to the protection of cultural property and local history

Fujikake graduated from the Tokyo Imperial University. At different times of his life he has worked as a lecturer for the Joshibi School of Art and Design, Professor at the Koku Gakuin University / Member of the Imperial Family Museum Curators Commmittee, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technologyfs National Treasure Audit Official, member and executive secretary of the Association for National Treasurefs Preservation, and trustee of the Tokyo National Museum. Fujikake became Professor at the Tokyo Imperial University after graduated with as a Doctor of Literature in 1934. He dedicated much of his time to the preservation of Koga historical ruins, as well as to his research on local history. He trained new generations of historians in a student dormitory which was located in one of Koga Clanfs Edo suburban residences used by daimyou lords. As far as art history is concerned, Fujikake is recognized as an expert, especially for his extensive research on Ukiyoe. He also enjoyed painting frequently, having studied the art under the guidance of Gyokushou Kawabata.
