Mito Famous Plum Festival

Once again this year, over 3000 trees and 100 varieties of plum blossoms will be heralding the coming of spring. Visitors come from far and away to enjoy the delicate pinks and yellows cascading over the meadows of Kairakuen Park, and take part in the special events. Starting 2/18 and going until 3/31, open every day. This year highlights include:
・「 Open-air Tea Parties, every Sunday from 10-3 (1st Sunday, except 3/18, 3/25 starting at 12)
・「 Japanese Traditional Music and Dance on 2/19, 11-12
・「 Hiina Nagashi・on 2/26 (11-12) and 3/3 (10:30-12); ritual purification by casting hina dolls into the river
・「 The Mito Evening Plum Festival; 3/3 (6-9pm), one night only! Candles and lights will illuminate the park late into the night, and there will be tea parties, vendors, and even fireworks to enjoy
・「 Traditional no dancing and singing among the plum blossoms, 3/4, 11-12
・「 Lion-Dances, 3/10, 6pm
・「 Out-Door Koto Performances, 3/11, 10-3pm
And, for the duration of the festival, the Joban line will stop at Kairakuen Special Station on weekends from 9:10am-3:30pm!
