The JET Programme
The JET Programme
invites people to Japan, mostly from English-speaking countries, to carry out both "living language" education and cross-cultural exchange. At present there are 62 JET participants placed in Ibaraki Prefecture's junior high schools and high schools as ALTs, or Assistant Language Teachers, to teach "living English" and interact with Ibaraki residents. In addition there are CIRs, or Coordinators for International Relations, whose jobs include planning and support of international exchange events, and supervision of foreign language materials created by the prefecture.
