Meiji	4th(1871) November 4th	Ibaraki prefecture was born, and Tessyu Yamaoka became as the first prefectural governor(as Ken-rei). Prefectural government was settled in Mito-castle.
	5th(1872)	Prefectural government was moved to the behind at the Koudou-kan.
	8th(1875)	Ibaraki prefecture was merged creating what is present Ibaraki prefecture.
	12th(1879)	The first election took place, and the prefectural government meeting was opened.
	15th(1882)	At San-no-maru, Mito-city, there was built the prefectural government office. It was made of wooden and had 2 floors.
	40th(1907)	Electric power light came to Mito-city
Showa	5th(1930)	Prefectural office was completed.(the former main government office building)
	20th(1945)	Mito-city had the Air blitz.
	22th(1947)	The prefectural governor was elected by the residents.(as Ken-Chiji)
	32th(1957)	The first nuclear rector was constructed.
	43th(1968)	The residents' day was provided.
	44th(1969)	The Kashima Port was built.
	48th(1973)	University of Tsukuba was established.
	49th(1974)	The 29th national sport festival was held.
	51th(1976)	The 27th Tree-Plant Festival was held.
	56th(1981)	The Joban-highway was opened from Kashiwa to Yatabe interchange.
	60th(1985)	The EXPO' 85 was held in Tsukuba.
	61th(1986)	Established international friendly relation with some cities in Italy, France and Costa Rica.
	62th(1987)	Kasumigaura-ohashi bridge opened.
	63th(1988)	Joban highway in the prefectural section was opened.
		The prefectural museum of modern Art was opened.
Heisei	1st(1989)	The 13th tree growth festival was held.
	3th(1991)	New addition to the National Hitachi Seaside Park opened.
	5th(1993)	The 10th National Tree-Planting in Cities- Ibaraki Fair (Green Fair '93 Ibaraki) was held.
	6th(1994)	The prefectural nature Museum opened.
	7th(1995)	The 6th International Conference on the Conservation and Management of Lake Kasumigaura '95 was held.
	8th(1996)	A part of Higashi-Mito way was opened.
		Kashima-shi was selected as one of the venue for the Soccer World Cup in 2002.
	9th(1997)	Izura Tenshin-Memorial Museum of Art opened.
	10th(1998)	Hitachinaka port opened.
	11th(1999)	Construction of the new prefectural office was completed.
	12th(2000)	Tsukuba international conference hall opened. Prefectural Ceramic museum opened.

Resident's Day in Ibaraki prefecture

This is the day for wishing our development and peaceful life, and Knowing our history and tradition. Since November 13th 1871, we have been used 'Ibaraki' for calling our prefecture. Then we desided to establish the Resident's  Day on March 30th 1968.

The present government building was built up in 1999 for the people who live in this prefecture could have relax in the lot of green environment as the relaxation place. On the surface, there are 25th floors and there are 2 floors in the underground. Almost 15 hectare area, there are government building, the parliament building, prefectural Police Administration office and so on.
