All the past governor |
Tessyu Yamaoka was elected as the first governor (as kenrei) on the 13th of November in
1871. At the first time the governor called as Kenrei or Sanji, though since June 1886,
the governor has been called as Ken-Chiji, when it was beginning from the 7th govenor
Mr.Sadanori Yasuda.
The present governor, Mr.Masaru Hashimoto, is the 61th governor of Ibaraki prefecture. |

The prefectural government in the
early times |
At the first time, prefectural government was established at old Koudou-Kan, after that,
around the present prefectural parliament, the government was settled down, then in 1939
our prefectural government moved to San-no-maru. |

The first prefectural meeting |
The first meeting in the government was opened on 1879(Meiji 12). there were 45 members gathered in Ibaraki-shihan-gakkou, and they decided about the local tax and so on. By the way, there are 65 present member in the prefectural Diet. |

Honorary citizens of our prefecture are Taikan Yokoyama (the
Japanese traditional painter) ,Hazan Itaya(the ceramist), Shigeru Morita(the western

The first census |
According to the first Census which was held on the October
the 1st in 1920, at that time there were more than 261thousand families living in Ibaraki
area, and the population was more than 1million 358 thousand people. The men's number was
more than 669thousand, and women's number was just about 690thousand. |

The history of railroads |
| The oldest railroad station
is Koga station of Touhoku Line, which was opened in 1895. After a year,Joban line was
opened between Tsuchiura to Tomobe, then after that, from Ueno to Iwanuma which has 345
kilometer was opened. At that time, it took about 4hours and half from Ueno to Mito, and
its fee was only 1.13yen. |

The beginning of
the School |
Beginning of School History of our prefecture was Koudoukan . The
Koudou-kan was for the school for Samurai of the Mito-Clan(han) It was opened in 1841 and
having several faculties which are literature, Bushidou(chivalry) and Medicine, just like
a present universities. In Koudou-kan had more than 3000 students at that time.
Other school are such as Ikubun-kan(Tsuchiura clan), Jisyuu-kan(Kasama), Seigi-kan(Asoh),
and Syuusyou-kan (Matsuoka clan/Takahagi)..Also there were more than Terako-ya which is,
just like present school, for common people in Ibaraki. |

treasure : the industrial art's sword in
the Kashima-jinnguu shrine. Designated in 1955.
Cultural heritage (material) : the buildings of Kashima-jinnguu shrine. designates in 1901.
Cultural heritage (moral) : Yuki-Tsumugui(the kind of texitale for Japanese Kimono),
Yuki-city. Designated in 1956.
Racial culture heritage(material): Hitachi Hu-ryu-butsu. This is the festival which is held in the
golden week season(end of April to beginnig of May) every year. Designated in 1959.
Recial culture heritage(moral): Tsunabi fire festival. Designated in 1976
Histric spot: Hunaduka-yama-kohun/Ancient tumb.
Ishioka-city. Designated in 1920.
Meisho Park: Tokiwa Park in Mito-city. Designated in Taisyo 11th.
Natural monument: Hamanasu-jisei-nangen-region in Kashima-city. Designated in 1921. |
