Industry and Economy

Ibaraki's economy is dependant on the manufacturing enterprises located in the Kashima seaside industrial zone and the Hitachi region. As part of Japan's rapid economic growth after World War II, these companies have expanded steadily.
Additionally, in recent years, leading-edge science and technology centers such as Tsukuba and Tōkai have acquired an excellent reputation around the world. In Hitachi and Kashima, many leading domestic companies have established their manufacturing facilities. Also, a large number of foreign-affiliated businesses have established themselves in the prefecture.
