Ibaraki Kashima Stadium

The Ibaraki Kashima Stadium will be used as the football venue for Tokyo 2020. It is the home stadium of the Kashima Antlers, a team in the J1 League. The stadium hosted matches in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and has received a positive reputation from all directions for its hospitality.

In March 2011, due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the stadium sustained some damages including falling of lights, speakers, and collapse of concrete blocks. During this time, the stadium received a great deal of aid from FIFA as well as many domestic and overseas support for the renovation. As a result, the restoration completed in March of the following year.

Now, Ibaraki Kashima Stadium is honored and proud to serve as the football venue for Tokyo 2020. The committee members are working tightly together to welcome visitors from all over the world with warm gratitude for the extraordinary support it has received during the restoration.
